My First True Love: Player to Coach

If you asked 13-year-old me what life would look like in 2025, I honestly probably would’ve said “playing pro, traveling the world, and jumping like I haven’t aged a day.” While my dream didn’t unfold exactly like that, what I’ve gained instead is something just as meaningful: becoming a coach and getting to give back to the game that shaped me into the person I am today.

Volleyball has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I got recruited to a Division 1 program, battled through TOO MANY injuries to count, and had unforgettable highs and humbling but still meaningful lows. From endless club tournaments to Division I courts, I learned about grit, the importance of teamwork, and having confidence. I learned how to win, how to lose, how to push through adversity, and how to keep pushing when you truly think it is the end of everything you have ever known. And now, I’m learning how to use everything I have been through to teach.

Coaching was always in the plan, but more of a distant plan, so stepping into this role so soon was a bit weird. But it came naturally once I stepped on the other side of the net and just started doing what I know and have been taught since I can remember. The thrill is different now, but it still lights this competitive fire within me. It’s not about personal stats or how many kills I have, but rather about helping young athletes find their game, trust their team, and discover what they’re capable of.

Each practice I coach at reminds me that this sport is so much more than wins and losses and hitting a ball around. It’s about building discipline, leadership, and resilience when things get hard. It’s about creating endless memories, forever friendships, and a mindset that lasts way beyond the court because you never know when it might end.
